![]() ![]() ![]() OBD-II pin 7, "K-Line", D_TXD2 goes directly to the DME and is why you can communicate with the DME. The instrument cluster translates messages received on OBD-II pin 8, "L-Line", D_TXD1, X11175-25 into K-bus messages on X11175-14 and vice versa. K-bus may be the same ISO9141-2 10.4kbit/sec asynchronous serial single ended signal protocol, but, the message protocol is not the same. BMW decided to use this for L-Line communication to the other modules in the car through the instrument cluster as a gateway. It is for engine computer, transmission only.īMWs use pin 8 on the OBD-II connector, which is not defined by the OBD-II standard, but, left for the vehicle manufacturers to do with as they please. "K-Line" is not the same as K-Bus, in fact K-line is an OBD-II pin 7 ISO9141-2 standard and is not used to communicate with the K-bus devices in any way.
